Forty-two volunteers from the Snohomish County Office of the Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) were justly celebrated for their dedication to advocating for children in need. Awarded the President’s Volunteer Service Award (PVSA) for their service in 2023, these individuals represent the best of community spirit and commitment. During a special event yesterday, hosted by the CASA staff, the volunteers were honored for their invaluable work with children who have faced abuse or neglect.

Each CASA volunteer has devoted significant amounts of their own time to help these vulnerable children, ultimately earning recognition through the PVSA program. According to

, gold, silver, or bronze medallions and pins were presented, along with a personal thank-you letter from President Biden. This program, launched in 2003, serves to publicly acknowledge the role volunteers play in strengthening the nation.

Commenting on the ceremony, Joelle Kelly, Division Manager for Snohomish County Office of the CASA said, “It’s a very special day when we can honor 42 CASA volunteers for earning the distinguished 2023 President’s Volunteer Service Award.” In the same statement obtained by

At the top tier, two remarkable gold awardees stand out: Linda Goodwin and Ginny Rathburn, who, between them, have represented 158 children during their tenure with CASA. Reflecting on her experience, Goodwin shared with Snohomish County, “Being a CASA has provided me with the opportunity to touch and be touched by the lives of amazing individuals, big and small.” She also credited the support from CASA as being instrumental in their ability to make a significant difference.

Additionally, eight volunteers received silver awards, and 32 were given bronze for their service levels – each contributing to a network of support that has advocated for numerous abused or neglected children.
