Over a year following a deadly incident that unsettled the Northwest community, an arrest has finally been made. The Metropolitan Police Department announced they have taken a Southeast DC man into custody in connection to the 2023 homicide of Denzel Greenwood. The arrest, as reported by

That night, Third District officers were called to respond to to a report of gunshots on the 1900 block of 13th Street, Northwest. Upon arrival, they discovered the victim, later identified as 33-year-old Denzel Greenwood. Authorities say DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services found him with no signs of life, and eventually, he was declared deceased and transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for further investigation.

The break in the case arrived this week, leading up to the arrest of 25-year-old Jordan Thurman, also from Southeast, DC. Thurman is now facing First Degree Murder while Armed charges, indicating the MPD’s belief that this was not only a calculated act but one that starkly reminds us of the prevalence of gun violence within the bounds of our city.
