Suspected Shooter Apprehended After High-Speed Chase Across Los Angeles County

A high-speed pursuit unfolded in Southern California as law enforcement agencies chased a suspected shooter across Los Angeles County, finally apprehending her on the 5 Freeway near Lake Hughes Road in the Castaic area, officials said.

KTLA

documented the chase initiated by Los Angeles Police Department after the female suspect, believed to be armed based on earlier events at Echo Park, led authorities from the 101 Freeway through the 170, then onto surface streets and eventually onto the northbound 5 Freeway.

During the pursuit, which

KTLA

reported lasted over an hour, the woman employed several evasion tactics, including faking stops then taking off, putting the officers and her own safety at risk while driving at slow speeds. The suspect, accompanied by her dog in the minivan, even performed a U-turn and wove through officers’ vehicles, complicating the chase.

The pursuit approached a resolution when, as documented by

ABC7

, a spike strip successfully deflated one of the vehicle’s tires. The suspect continued for some time before the vehicle became disabled, at which point she surrendered to officers from the California Highway Patrol, who had taken over the chase in Santa Clarita.

“A woman is believed to have fired multiple shots towards someone she had a verbal altercation with,” LAPD Lieutenant Jose Castro told

NBC Los Angeles

, adding that fortunately, no injuries were reported from the initial incident.
