Hilo Burglary Suspect Charged Following Community Tips, Police Search for Second Perpetrator

The concerted effort of the Hilo community has led to the arrest and charging of a burglary suspect by the Hawai‘i Island Police. Sheldon Pagan, 47, from Hilo, was identified by the public following a media release displaying surveillance footage from a September burglary at an unidentified business on Kalanianaole Street. The information that helped to identify Pagan was provided after his image was caught on camera and released to the public.

After tips poured in identifying Pagan as one of the suspects involved in the burglary that took place in the early morning of Sunday, September 15, 2024, he was arrested on Tuesday, according to the

Hawai‘i Island Police

. The Hawai‘i County Prosecutors Office consulted in the matter, and subsequently Pagan faces charges for second-degree burglary, second-degree theft, and third-degree criminal property damage.

Pagan’s bail was set at a hefty $43,000. Meanwhile, the search continues for the second suspect. Described as a local male donning a dark top, ball cap, and dark shorts, this individual stands out with a beige wrap-type bandage on his lower left shin and a small beige bandage below his right knee cap. are appealing to anyone with additional information to come forward and help bring the second perpetrator to justice.
