Carmel Announces Fall Construction Updates: Enhanced Pedestrian Paths and New Roundabouts on the Horizon

Carmel residents and visitors can expect smoother travel and improved pedestrian access as the city works on several construction projects this fall. According to a

City of Carmel

bulletin, weather and utility issues may affect project timelines, but the city assures that these upgrades are focused on benefiting the community.

Updates include the initial stormwater work completion on College Avenue, and preparing for a new roundabout at E. 96th Street and N. College Avenue in the spring of 2025. As mentioned by the

, the project will not only cater to vehicular flow but also enhance utilities, stormwater collection, and pedestrian movements through landscaping and intersection advancements. Motorists have been advised to be patient as these upgrades are slated to facilitate better community engagement and aesthetics.

The 106th Street and Hazel Dell Parkway project is expected to be mostly completed by Thanksgiving. Future phases will add raised pedestrian crosswalks and a new pedestrian bridge over the White River, improving the overall pedestrian experience, according to the city.

The westbound lane of the W. 116th Street multi-use path between Shelborne Road and Michigan Road will be closed from mid-November to December. However, eastbound traffic will remain open during this time, with the remaining work set for 2025. The city also aims to finish the roundabouts at Veterans Way and W. Walnut Street and at Pennsylvania Parkway and Liberty Fund Drive by Thanksgiving, highlighting its focus on improving traffic flow.

3rd Avenue SW will reopen by the end of the year. Final work will depend on completing utility relocations, which are expected to finish next year.
