The Ranch Rescue, a West Palm Beach-based group, has taken on the task of caring for more than 50 cats after a home overrun by felines raised alarms; the overwhelming situation unfolded when a family member sought help for a relative—a veteran struggling with the consequences of hoarding. In a statement obtained by
WPTV
, Palm Beach County Animal Care & Control revealed it removed “37 cats a couple days before Halloween and have been bringing in a couple a day on average,” but their facility has reached capacity, prompting The Ranch Rescue to step in and aid in finding fosters for these pets.
Many of the cats taken from the property were found to be generally healthy, though they were battling eye infections, and The Ranch Rescue is now actively seeking homes that can foster the cats to help socialize them while also calling for donations to cover care and supplies, as
WPTV
reported. The veteran homeowner, who found himself in deep water as the hoarding spiraled, is cooperating with authorities and has sought mental health treatment through the VA and The Ranch Rescue is working alongside him to navigate this crucial juncture in his life.
Additional assistance is being extended to the felines living outside the residence. These cats are being earmarked for TNVR—trap, neuter, vaccinate, return—programs by Barky Pines Animal Rescue & Sanctuary, as noted on
The Ranch Rescue’s Facebook page
. While adult cats seek fosters, the kittens, also suffering from the same treatable eye conditions, need temporary homes in Palm Beach County specifically, in order to keep up with their veterinary care orchestrated by the team at The Ranch Rescue.
Support for this cause extends beyond physical fostering and the team is welcoming monetary contributions through several channels including Zelle,
GoFundMe
, and PayPal, mentioned in the same
Facebook post
, highlighting a spectrum of ways the community can aid in the care of these cats, from donating items like cat food and kitty litter to providing financial assistance to cover the unforeseen medical expenses the rescue is now facing due to the influx of these felines.
As a part of their outreach, The Ranch Rescue also has an Amazon wishlist where specific supplies can be purchased for the cats’ benefit—those wishing to give physical goods can directly contribute products that alleviate the operational pressures on the rescue.
