A Lone Grove man has been sentenced to over six years in federal prison after pleading guilty to a firearm charge, an enforcement action that highlights ongoing efforts to curb violent crime in Oklahoma. Danny Ray Gordon, III, received a 77-month sentence for being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition.

The 33-year-old’s sentence stems from a December 2023 traffic stop where he was found with a .32 caliber semi-automatic pistol and several rounds of ammunition. As previously reported by the

United States Attorney’s Office

for the Eastern District of Oklahoma, Gordon had a prior conviction that disqualified him from legally carrying a firearm.

This case falls under Project Safe Neighborhoods, a program that federals agencies have been pushing as a strategy to reduce violent crime through cooperative law enforcement at all levels. According to the

U.S. Attorney’s Office

, “This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program bringing together all levels of law enforcement and the communities they serve to reduce violent crime and gun violence, and to make our neighborhoods safer for everyone.”

The campaign reflects a larger, nationwide push to reinforce PSN with renewed strategies since May 2021, focusing on community trust, support for violence prevention, strategic enforcement, and tracking the outcomes. The presiding judge, Chief U.S. District Judge Ronald A. White, handed down the sentence which Gordon is set to serve without the possibility of parole. Assistant United States Attorney T. Cameron McEwen represented the United States in the case.

Gordon is currently in U.S. Marshal custody awaiting transfer to a designated federal prison facility where he will begin his sentence.
