A fire broke out at the Packard Plaza Shopping Center in Cudahy yesterday afternoon, causing significant damage to Eddie’s Liquidation Center, a furniture and home goods store. According to
WISN
, the Cudahy Fire Department was called to the scene at 1:04 p.m., and upon arrival, firefighters were faced with a warehouse section ablaze, prompting a second alarm for additional support.
Multiple fire departments, including crews from Milwaukee, South Milwaukee, Greendale, Greenfield, St. Francis, Oak Creek, and West Allis, responded to the two-alarm fire. Housed in the Packard Plaza Shopping Center, the store was storing combustible furniture and home goods which helped fuel the fire. As firefighters tackled the flames, the building’s contents provided a challenge, sending a plume of heavy smoke into the air,
CBS 58
reported.
Miraculously, there were no reported injuries. The fire was reportedly brought under control within 30 minutes of the firefighting team’s aggressive efforts. However, the warehouse where the fire was concentrated did not escape the ordeal unscathed, suffering extensive damage, with heavy smoke reaching the sales floor and office areas, leaving a stark aftermath for the business owners to address.
FOX6 News
indicated that the initial firefighting tactic was an attempt to enter through the front, which had to be abandoned due to intense heat and fire blocking the path, forcing them out. Following the blaze, the Cudahy Fire Department confirmed that everyone present in the store and nearby businesses was safely evacuated, and they are now investigating to determine the cause of the incident.
