The events unfolded around 5:39 p.m. after a deputy conducted a routine traffic stop on Beckley Road in Battle Creek for multiple violations, as reported by

. The suspect, a 34-year-old male from Emmett Township, was identified by prior interaction with law enforcement.
Upon the deputy’s attempt to speak to the man, he sped off eastbound, igniting a pursuit that eventually led to a crash near Beadle Lake Road and a subsequent chase on foot into a wooded area, as detailed by

. A K9 unit from the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office traced the suspect to a nearby house, where the suspect barricaded himself inside and declared he possessed a firearm and would harm officers if they attempted to capture him.
