Baltimore’s Record Dry Spell Ends as Rain Showers Pass Through, Weather Rollercoaster Ahead

Baltimore residents can finally holster their umbrellas after a record dry spell and wrestle with wind gusts and cold fronts instead. According to the

National Weather Service

Baltimore MD/Washington DC, a band of scattered rain showers hit the region, ending Baltimore’s prolonged drought. While not significant in accumulation, this brief amount of rain caps off a historically dry period, with rainfall inching between 0.10 to 0.50 inches in most areas and reaching up an inch in western Maryland.

Baltimoreans should prepare for warm and breezy conditions today courtesy of a departing cold front. Temperatures will be in the upper 60s to mid-70s, notably above mid-November averages. This is followed by a secondary cold front, bringing cooler temperatures and clearer skies midweek. The weather yo-yo continues as the region braces for another cold front by Thursday, promising a mix of sunshine and showers heading into the weekend.

Aviation and marine operations aren’t immune to the changing weather patterns. Small Craft Advisories are peppering the coastlines, warning of winds up to 25 knots and changing conditions through Tuesday night. While flights might contend with some early-day rain showers and IFR ceilings, skies are expected to clear swiftly post-daybreak, generally maintaining VFR conditions aside from northwesterly gusts that could push up to 25 knots, per the forecast discussion.

The fire weather threat also shows a mild flare-up, with 25 to 30 mph gusts carrying lower humidity, especially at higher elevations. Although rains have damped the risk, the potential for large dew point depressions on Wednesday—dropping relative humidity values into the 20s—keeps the area on alert.
