Early Monday morning, a 42-year-old man fell victim to a robbery and assault at the Loop’s CTA Blue Line station, suffering an injury that required medical attention. According to the
Chicago Sun-Times
, the incident took place on the Blue Line platform in the 200 block of North LaSalle Street around 2:15 a.m. when an individual demanded money from the man.
The confrontation escalated as the robber struck the victim in the face, forcibly took his wallet, and then escaped by boarding a departing train, the man sustained a laceration to his nose during the assault and was subsequently transported to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where he was reported in good condition this escalation of violence in the supposed safety of our transit hubs poses unsettling questions about the sanctity of public space and the contours of safety within it.
