Austin Welcomes Oertli Neighborhood Park: City Celebrates with Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony This Friday

Mark your calendars, Austinites. It’s time to lace up your sneakers, get outdoors, and celebrate the newest addition to your local green spaces. The

Austin Parks and Recreation Department

, together with the Austin Parks Foundation, is hosting a ribbon-cutting event for the Oertli Neighborhood Park, located at 12613 Blaine Rd. The ceremony is scheduled for Friday, November 22 at 11 a.m., and given this is an outdoor park event, guests are advised to dress with the weather in mind.

The latest recreational haven to grace Austin boasts a scenic loop trail that connects the park from Blaine Road to Pearl Retreat Drive. Nestled within a once vacant six-acre property, the park now features an array of amenities including shade trees,, a playground area with a pavilion, outdoor fitness equipment, and a crowd-pleasing fenced in off-leash area for the pups. There’s also plenty of open space for those looking to picnic, play, or simply lounge in the sun.

The transformation from an idle pasture to a vibrant community hub marks a significant milestone. This land, historically used by the Oertli Family as a pasture for their dairy farms from 1923 until 2001, comes to life once more nurturing a different kind of local culture. Visitors can also glimpse the past with a Texas Historical Marker installed on-site, honoring the agricultural legacy of the Oertli family.

The park’s construction kicked off in December of 2023 and wrapped up this November, right on schedule ahead of its grand opening. Funding for this green initiative came from the 2018 Parkland Improvements Bonds and Parkland Dedication Fees, with the Austin Parks Foundation stepping in to provide additional support for shade pavilions.
