Bronx Juvenile Detention Center Supervisor Pleads Guilty to Assault on Teen and Falsifying Report

A Bronx juvenile detention center supervisor has entered a guilty plea after being charged with the assault of a 16-year-old resident and filing a false report to cover up the incident. According to the

, Daquan Seymour, a supervisor at Horizon Juvenile Center, admitted to his culpability in connection with the beating which occurred on April 25, 2022.

In detailed accounts provided by the attorney’s office, Seymour along with another supervisor, were responsible for escorting the minor to a private room and inflicting physical harm upon the young individual. The victim, identified only as Minor Victim-1, suffered significant injuries during the altercation, including a deep cut to his lip that necessitated emergency medical treatment including nine stitches. highlighted that Seymour’s admission included a second occurrence where he fabricated an incident report related to an attempted assault of another 17-year-old resident in December 2021. Seymour, who was arrested on July 26, 2023, entered his guilty plea before U.S. District Judge Edgardo Ramos.

The guilty plea focuses on one count of deprivation of rights under color of law, which carries a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison. However, sentencing will be at the discretion of the presiding judge and not necessarily reflect the maximum potential sentences prescribed by Congress. Mr. Williams commended the Department of Investigation for their critical role in the case and acknowledged the assistance from the U.S. Attorney’s Office’s Special Agents. The prosecution is managed by the Office’s Civil Rights Unit with Assistant U.S. Attorneys Jamie Bagliebter, Lisa Daniels, and Mitzi S. Steiner leading the charge.
