Suspect Sought in Murfreesboro Business Heist; Brazen Thief Rappels Through Roof for Cash

A daring theft was executed at a Murfreesboro business over the weekend, with local authorities currently seeking the identity of the suspect involved in the heist. According to the Murfreesboro Police Department (MPD), a man broke into Lanes Trains and Automobiles by cutting a hole through the roof and then rappelling down into the establishment early Sunday morning, as reported by

The suspect, who was captured on surveillance footage, proceeded to steal approximately $1,500 from an ATM and a game card recharging machine the suspect entered carrying a hammer and a prying tool, initially attempting to open a cash register drawer containing no money, after cutting through drywall to access the machine funds. “Detectives said the burglar appears to be a male, approximately 6 feet tall, weighing about 170lbs. The burglar was wearing a green camouflage balaclava to cover his head and face, a black jacket, blue jeans, brown square-toed leather boots, gloves, and was carrying a black backpack,” MPD described in a statement obtained by

The crime was only discovered several hours later, around 7:50 a.m., by an employee. At the time, the business was undergoing interior renovations, which may have provided an opportunity for the theft to occur unnoticed, police said. The department has called for anyone with information about the crime to come forward, urging witnesses or those in the know to contact Detective Aaron Gonzalez at 629-201-5638, as noted by

Despite the bold and unusual nature of the break-in the suspect made his exit through a more conventional route, leaving the premises through a side door; Murfreesboro police continue their investigation into this brazen act of theft and have not yet identified the suspect involved. The incident has raised questions about the security of businesses during periods of renovation when they may be more vulnerable to such crimes.
