, the man, a 34-year-old from Glendale, fled from troopers across the westbound lanes, jumped over the median, and then was struck by a car upon entering the eastbound side. As troopers attempted to detain the individual, a subsequent collision between two vehicles resulted in the death of a passenger, identified as 40-year-old Peter Stump from Chandler.

The driver who hit the pedestrian was not seriously injured. During the effort to detain him, two other vehicles crashed, resulting in Stump’s death and injuries to the drivers, though none were life-threatening. The freeway was closed for several hours, disrupting traffic, but has since reopened.

The pedestrian, who is recovering from his injuries, will face charges once he is able. He remains unidentified in official reports and has not been booked due to his medical condition. No details about his condition or the charges he will face have been released, but authorities are expected to provide more information as the investigation continues.
