Marysville Man Sentenced to 11 Years for Threatening Local Police Officer and Battery

A Marysville man, identified as 27-year-old Angel Zavala, received an 11-year prison sentence for threats made against a local female police officer. According to the

Officers responding to a call on December 26, 2022, found the defendant outside the Cortez Room in Marysville, lying face down and intoxicated. Recognizing the female officer from past encounters, Zavala began levying threats, which grew increasingly detailed and violent. According to the

During the trial, Zavala’s defense claimed insanity at the time of the offense. However, despite the testimony of multiple doctors, Judge Scrogin concluded that Zavala was legally sane when committing the threats.
