Downtown Miami Breathes Sigh of Relief as ‘Suspicious Package’ Deemed Harmless, Traffic Restored Post Investigation

A suspicious package prompted heavy police and bomb squad presence in downtown Miami, resulting in traffic closures and an investigation that had residents on edge before authorities eventually gave the all clear. As reported by

WSVN

, the package was discovered yesterday evening in a parking garage at 650 NE 2nd Ave., leading to closed streets and residents being barred temporarily from entering their homes.

City of Miami Police were forced to quickly shut down traffic, both vehicular and pedestrian, from Northeast First to Second avenues and between Northeast Seventh and Eighth streets. This included the area around the Kaseya Center on Biscayne Boulevard. The bomb squad arrived to assess the situation diligently, while police urged the public to avoid the area and prompted nearby residents to remain indoors, according to a

report.

Residents of the area were visibly disrupted by the incident, with some unable to return to their apartments for several hours. Will Kepler, affected by the closures, told

WSVN

, “Coming home from work, tried to get through, the street was closed.” Another resident, Raphaela Silva, had been waiting for over an hour, stating, “I actually, like, I live with a roommate, and she texts me, like, ’cause she was coming home a few minutes before me, and she got stuck as well.”

The management of Bezel Apartments has issued a safety notice indicating that, due to a concern in the MWC parking garage, all four elevators are currently stationed at the lobby level. The residents were advised to use the stairs and to avoid the garage in question, as the message further explained that the elevators would remain out of service until the local authorities declared the area safe. Subsequent to the bomb squad’s thorough vetting of the package, it was deemed harmless, resulting in the lifting of street closures and the departure of police and fire rescue crews, just before 11 p.m., as
