Carjacking Escalates to Kidnapping in Antioch before Suspect is Arrested

Early yesterday morning, the Antioch community was jolted by a carjacking incident that quickly escalated into a kidnapping. The Antioch Police Department reported that at approximately 8:48 a.m., they received multiple 911 calls about a vehicle collision at Lone Tree Way and Slatten Ranch Road. A man was seen fleeing a disabled black sedan and forcibly commandeered a silver SUV from the nearby Slatten Ranch shopping center. Running from the accident scene, the suspect, an Antioch resident, took the vehicle’s owner along.

According to eyewitness accounts, while making a hasty escape, the carjacking victim managed to flee from the SUV at the adjacent Walmart shopping area. Responding swiftly to the scene, officers located the abandoned black sedan and the carjacking victim. In a press release issued by the

, they stated that the stolen SUV was spotted during a subsequent search, setting off a vehicle pursuit. However, as the suspect neared a school zone with excessive speed, police made the critical decision to call off the chase.

Eventually, the suspect abandoned the SUV on the 3100 block of View Drive and resumed his flight on foot, trying to enter multiple vehicles on Alcala Street and West Tregallas Road. Due to the vigilance of local residents, police were alerted to the suspect’s suspicious attempts to find another escape vehicle. Converging on the scene, officers pursued the suspect.

Caught in the act, the suspect bolted northbound onto Highway 4, where, without further incident, police arrested him.
