Westerville Man Convicted of Murder in Franklin County Court, Faces Potential Life Sentence

In a case that has concluded with a firm verdict, Brandarius Agnew, a 28-year-old resident of Westerville, has been found guilty of the murder of William Dammond. This chilling incident occurred last year. This decision was delivered by a Franklin County judge on Tuesday, firmly placing the responsibility for the crime on Agnew’s shoulders.

The Franklin County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, represented by Assistant Prosecuting Attorneys Zach Imwalle and Brian Morgan, successfully argued against Agnew. According to the

official release, the Columbus Division of Police arrived at a Cooper Colony Drive housing complex on Oct. 22, 2022, greeted by the grim scene of a stabbing. Dammond, in his final moments at the hospital, pointed to Agnew as his assailant – a neighbor with whom he shared more than just residential proximity.

Agnew’s defense took the angle of insanity, entering a not-guilty plea despite his admission of the stabbing to the police. In a strategic move that forfeited the public adjudication of a jury, he waived his right to a jury trial. It was Judge Andy Miller who, in the absence of a jury’s collective deliberation, pronounced Agnew guilty – guilty of murder, of a repeat violent offender specification attached to the murder charge, and of tampering with evidence.

The sentencing, scheduled for Jan. 14, 2025, looms over Agnew with the weight of a potential life sentence. If Judge Miller’s sentence aligns with the gravity of the charges, Agnew might be eligible for parole only after serving 15 to 25 years behind bars. Justice for William Dammond may be delayed in the procedural sense, but in the eyes of the court, it is certainly not denied.
