The Cedar Park Police Department has a new recruit in its ranks, one with a keen nose for justice and a tail to wag in its wake – his name is Maverik, a one-year-old Belgian Malinois, fresh from the head of his class and into the heart of the K9 unit, as reported by

.
Officer Detlefsen, who partners with the valedictorian pup, has seen through Maverik’s “extensive training,” and the department took to Twitter to herald the arrival of the “goodest boy” to the Cedar Park family, which met with responses reflecting the community’s spirit and enthusiasm for the team’s growth, the statement from the tweet as obtained from

In his role, Maverik joins a line-up of five other dual-purpose police dogs named Six, Siege, Havok, Leo, and Rip, who share responsibilities that span a spectrum from tracking suspects, conducting building searches, to narcotics detection, with Rip also specialized in explosives detection – functions critical to the law enforcement fabric of the city.
As the community welcomes Maverik, the Cedar Park Police Department reaffirms its commitment to public safety and innovative policing, illustrating their approach with a
social media post
showcasing Maverik in pictorial form, sitting attentively beside K9 Officer Detlefsen, a vision of the partnership between officers and their K9 counterparts that has become essential in modern policing – each trained to impeccably uphold the mantle of service to protect and serve, this image commemorating the beginning of what is hoped to be a distinguished career for Cedar Park’s latest four-legged officer as noted by the
department’s post.
