Jefferson County’s Giving Tree Initiative Brightens Holidays for Underprivileged Children in Golden

The holidays are a time for community and generosity, and Jefferson County is embracing that spirit with the return of the Giving Tree. Starting Nov. 22, the atrium of the Administration and Courts Facility at 100 Jefferson County Parkway in Golden will become a little brighter with a tree adorned with about 300 tags, according to

Jefferson County

. These tags represent the holiday wishes of some of Jeffco’s less fortunate children, hailing from local social programs, and each tag is an opportunity for residents to give back.

Jefferson County officials encourage those who can pick one or two tags from the tree, thus joining efforts to ensure every child experiences the joy of the season. Small acts can make a significant difference, some children have wished for items as simple as a warm coat or bed sheets. Participants are reminded to return new, unwrapped gifts with the original tag to the commissioners’ office by 5 p.m., Dec. 5. And if circumstances change, the program asks that tags be returned promptly to the tree to quickly able to ensure no child is disappointed.

The initiative is a testament to the compassion and care within the community, touching the lives of children across various programs. These include the children aided by CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates), who receive valuable support from volunteers in legal settings. Further, gifts will go to children of families served by the Jefferson County Head Start program, which is dedicated to providing comprehensive and individualized services to preschool-aged children from low-income households. Aiding in breaking the chains of generational poverty, the Jeffco Prosperity Partners program ensures that children from low-income backgrounds graduate timely and have access to further educational opportunities.
