Subway Service Disruptions Hit NYC as Emergency Response to Incident at Delancey Street Station Unfolds

Commuters in New York City faced disruption this morning, as subway services were partially suspended due to an emergency at the Delancey Street-Essex Street station in Manhattan. Two train lines, the J and the M, halted service between Brooklyn and Manhattan after an individual was struck by a train, according to

.

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) has since been working to manage the flow of concerned passengers and reroute service. M trains were reported to be running only as far as Broadway-Lafayette and Myrtle Avenue while J and Z services, were not operating between Marcy Avenue and Broad Street. In the wake of the incident, MTA advised commuters to utilize alternative routes including the A, C, L, 2, 3, and 4 lines, providing essential connectivity for those affected by the sudden change, as

NBC New York

reported.

As emergency personnel addressed the situation, subway routes were redirected, causing J trains bound for Broad Street to terminate at Marcy Avenue. Meanwhile, M trains destined for Forest Hills were diverting to either Marcy Avenue or Myrtle Avenue, and those headed toward Metropolitan Avenue ended their journeys at 2nd Avenue on the F line in Manhattan.

Whilst, the exact circumstances that led to the person’s presence on the tracks remains unclear, officials confirmed that the individual was already on the tracks when the train entered the station. No update was immediately given about the condition of the person hit by the train or an estimated time for when normal service would resume. The response and subsequent investigation continue to unfold.
