The City of Arlington is preparing to implement a new zoning strategy that will influence future development in specific areas of the city. Known as ‘Form-Based Code,’ this approach prioritizes the physical form of urban development over the conventional concentration on land use.
The City of Arlington and consultants from Livable Plans and Codes will host a session on Form-Based Code to explain it to the community. The event is scheduled to take place at the City Council Chamber on Abram Street on November 20 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. In addition to sharing their own stories, guest speakers from Fort Worth and Roanoke will offer background information and actual situations that illustrate the significance of the code. Following the presentation, a Q&A session is scheduled to allow residents to ask questions and participate in the discussion.
The way that new construction blends in with parks and streets is given top priority in the proposed Form-Based Code. It seeks to create a visually beautiful and welcoming environment for both tourists and business owners by achieving a harmonic blend of private and public properties. The reorientation of parking lots, the adaption of building setbacks, and the incorporation of green spaces are examples of relevant alterations, according the information supplied by the event organizers.
The City Council will make a final decision in December after the present deliberations regarding the Form-Based Code are over. These new rules, which would make sidewalks, parks, and trails more pedestrian-friendly, were nominated for first implementation in four districts. Following the selection process, each of these neighborhoods—which stretch from East Abram Street to Mesquite Street—has a unique set of strategic concerns for potential redevelopment and community involvement.
