19-Year-Old Kyon Harvey Arrested and Faces Multiple Charges Following Gunfire on North Market Street in Wilmington

Last month, there was more police action on the streets of Wilmington, and one of the suspects in a case of gunfire without injuries was arrested. The Wilmington Police Department was called to the 2400 block of North Market Street at 5:55 p.m. on Halloween night to a report of shots fired. Luckily, no one was hurt, according to a news release posted on Nixle, a service for local government agencies to share official information.

The department’s Gun Intelligence Unit led the investigation and finally found 19-year-old Kyon Harvey to be the main suspect. After getting the necessary arrest warrants, police conducted a traffic stop on November 10 in the 3100 block of North Market Street. Harvey, who was a passenger in the vehicle, attempted to resist arrest and was briefly able to escape before being caught. During the arrest, a loaded.40 caliber handgun was recovered by the police.

Harvey is now being charged with many things, including four counts of Possession of a Firearm or Ammunition by a Person Prohibited and Reckless Endangering First Degree, as well as separate counts of Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony, Carrying a Concealed Deadly Weapon, Possession of a Firearm with an Obliterated Serial Number, Discharging a Firearm on a City Street, Second Degree Assault, Resisting Arrest, and Criminal Mischief Under $1,000. The Nixle report says that he was tried and is now being held at the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on a $146,200 cash-only bail.

The recent string of gun-related incidents in Wilmington shows how hard it is for police to keep the city safe. This latest arrest shows how hard the police are working to stop gun crimes, but people in the community are still worried about how these arrests affect neighborhoods. After Kyon Harvey’s court appearance, his case will move forward through the criminal justice system. His fate now depends on due process and the community’s ability to deal with the violent threats that people in cities face every day.
