Broward Authorities Offer Turkey Frying Safety Tips Ahead of Thanksgiving Festivities

The Broward Sheriff’s Office and Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue want people to remember to be safe this Thanksgiving when they deep-fry turkeys. To keep people from getting hurt, the government is giving people who like crispy, deep-fried birds some important safety advice.

BSFR Battalion Chief Michael Kane showed how quickly excitement can turn into an emergency yesterday at a press meeting by frying a turkey the wrong way. “The weather has gotten cooler, and we’re in holiday mode.” “Thanksgiving is coming up in just a few weeks,” Kane told WSVN. With an example that showed how carelessness can lead to explosive results.

Kane gave some simple turkey safety tips for the holiday: cook on a flat surface, stay at least 10 feet away from any buildings, don’t overfill the pot, and only put turkeys in the hot oil after they are fully thawed. These tips are meant to keep home cooks from heating the peanut oil too much. According to Kane’s safety warning, the oil should stay close to 350 degrees.

Meanwhile, CBS Miami reported on these tips and reminded people of how important it is to be careful when doing the traditional turkey fry. The main point being made is that you should enjoy the holidays with your family, good food, and most importantly, safety.
