Houston Duo Nabbed in San Antonio ATM Burglary Attempt; Third Suspect At Large

Two men from Houston were taken into custody early on Wednesday morning after trying to break into an ATM on the South Side of San Antonio. At the Security Service Federal Credit Union on Southeast Military Drive, an alarm went off, alerting the authorities. Only two of the three individuals attempting to steal an ATM were apprehended by the authorities when they arrived. Nevon Barnes and Dexter Robinson, both 25 years old, were later identified as the suspects.

Apart from a car, police have not revealed the instruments used in the attempted heist, choosing instead to withhold information on the tactics of the attempted break-in. The method was advanced enough, though, that authorities thought the suspects “knew what they were doing,” according to a statement that KSAT was able to receive. One suspect is still at large in the ongoing investigation into the attempted burglary.

This most recent attempt is part of a growing trend of crimes involving ATMs in the region, with a pattern of thieves going from Houston to San Antonio to commit these crimes. In recent weeks, the San Antonio Police Department has observed a rise in similar events, according to a report by KENS 5.

SAPD advises the public to exercise caution while making big cash withdrawals as the holiday season draws near. According to authorities, “the bad guys may be watching them,” so residents should exercise extra caution. According to KSAT, there was no additional information available at the time of the report on the third suspect or the possible amount of money stolen.
