The Flagler County Sheriff’s Office stated that an ATV accident involving a couple from Volusia County has been connected to the event at Hidden Trails Park in Flagler County, where a “significant” amount of human blood was discovered in a bathroom. When the blood was found during a routine security check at around 2:40 a.m. on Monday, it initially baffled investigators and sparked an investigation that looked to have more questions than answers.
When deputies arrived on the scene, they found a loaded 9mm magazine on the floor and blood on the wall of the hallway leading to the women’s lavatory and even more inside. Despite the alarming evidence, a K-9 team and a drone search failed to find any people who might have been hurt or hidden. According to News4JAX, Crime and Safety Analyst Tom Hackney stated, “Something bad happened to somebody,” implying the sinister implications of the discovery at the time.
Sheriff Rick Staly’s statement, which linked the blood to an accident that happened to a woman from the Ormond Beach area, has allayed some of these worries. The sheriff said in a statement that The News-Journal was able to get, “We spoke to a couple who said the woman suffered a non-life-threatening injury on an all-terrain vehicle.” Although concerning, the act was not as heinous as first thought, as the woman involved received treatment at Halifax Health Medical Center in Daytona Beach.
Although the investigation has been closed, it is still unclear where the bullet came from. According to First Coast News, the sheriff has ruled the investigation closed, bringing an end to the probe into the issues brought up following the first finding.
