High-tech assistance has helped local law police catch two individuals after a violent robbery in Montgomery County on Tuesday. The suspects, Anthony Tyrone Slater Jr., 25, of Germantown, and Davon Lopez, 30, of Gaithersburg, are facing significant charges after footage from the Montgomery County Police Real-Time Intelligence Center (RTIC) was crucial to their capture.
The incident occurred at the transit center at the 9600 block of Lost Knife Road, according to the Montgomery County Police Department. Officers were notified by a call that described the robbery and the attackers in progress, and they discovered the victim severely beaten. They took him to the hospital, where he was admitted with non-life-threatening injuries. The RTIC’s real-time data and video access gave officers the clarity they needed to identify the suspects.
Slater was seen on camera stomping on the victim who had already fallen, and footage analysis identified Lopez as delivering multiple blows and a kick to the victim’s head after his fall. This evidence, which was promptly provided by the RTIC, was essential in identifying and confirming the suspects’ versions of the attack.
After obtaining descriptions, police found two people who fit the descriptions near a nearby laundromat on Lost Knife Road. They quickly caught Lopez and Slater as they tried to flee the establishment, and they were charged with first-degree assault, second-degree assault, robbery, and reckless endangerment. Both suspects are currently being held without bond.
In this example, the prompt cooperation between the RTIC and field officers obviously resulted in the detention and charging of two suspects in a violent crime, highlighting the importance of real-time surveillance in assisting police operations and expediting the pursuit of justice.
