Napa Valley’s Landmark Francis House Sold to Edward Anthony Luxury Estates for $9.6 Million

The historic and widely-regarded luxury bed-and-breakfast, The Francis House, located in Calistoga, Napa Valley, has been acquired by Edward Anthony Luxury Estates for $9.6 million, as reported byrealtor.com. The transaction comes a decade after the estate was saved from demolition by Richard and Dina Dwyer, who invested four years into meticulously renovating the French Second Empire-style property. A statement from the Dywers captured their sentiments on the sale: “Though our time here has come to a close, all of you who have walked through these doors will continue to bring life and love to this magical place.”

Built-in 1886 as a family residence for merchant James Francis, The Francis House later served as a hospital until it fell into disrepair and remained vacant for over 50 years. It was eventually listed on the National Register of Historic Places, highlighting its architectural significance and role as a birthing hospital for many of Napa Valley s residents and esteemed winemakers. The Dywers’ intervention 2014 rescued the building from demolition and transformed it into a luxury destination that has caught the attention of publications such as Vogue and Architectural Digest.

In its new incarnation, The Francis House features seven bedrooms, a light-filled chef’s kitchen, and opulent common areas adorned with carved fireplaces and built-in shelving. Luxurious amenities such as an infrared sauna, salt room, heated pool, and fire pit, as well as modern necessities like Toto heated toilets and an on-site Tesla charger, cater to the expectations of high-end clientele.

The sale of the property was announced on Instagram by Arthur Goodrich of The Goodrich Group at Sotheby s International Realty Wine Country Brokerage, who expressed pride in representing this “1 of 1” property and the facilitation of the deal, “The Goodrich Group is thrilled to have led the sale of this extraordinary property.” The sellers were represented by Patty and Dianne Dwyer of the Patty Dwyer Group at Compass on the Peninsula, Burlingame. The transaction reflects Edward Anthony Luxury Estates’ dedication to exclusive properties in vacation destinations such as Napa Valley, Texas Hill Country, and Turks and Caicos.
