Las Cruces Homeowners Can Reduce Annual Sewer Bills by Conserving Water Now Through February 2025

Las Cruces residents have a window of opportunity to cut down their sewer bills for the next year. According to a recent announcement by Las Cruces Utilities (LCU), homeowners who limit their water usage now until their February 2025 bill can look forward to smaller sewer charges over the forthcoming 12 months. LCU determines residential sewer rates by analyzing water consumption data from the next four billing cycles. This strategy encourages conservation and could lead to notable savings on utility costs, according to theCity of Las Cruces.

The calculation model LCU follows multiplies the volume of water consumed by 90% to set the average usage benchmark for each household. This average will then set the yearly rate, subsequently billed monthly starting in March each year. In effect, the less water used during this evaluation period, the lower the sewer rate will be for the entire subsequent year, as reported by theCity of Las Cruces.

Las Cruces residents currently face a monthly access charge of $8.26, along with a variable volume charge based on their water usage. The volume charge is $2.00 for every 1,000 gallons for the first 3,000 gallons used. For any amount over 3,000 gallons, the charge increases to $3.79 per 1,000 gallons. While these rates may change, even small reductions in water usage can result in significant savings. It’s also important to note that these service rates do not include any applicable taxes and franchise fees imposed by governmental authorities.
