Country music artist Sundance Head, known for his appearances on American Idol and as the winner of Season 11 of “The Voice,” is presently in stable condition after suffering a gunshot wound. According to a statement by his wife, Misty Head, shared on Facebook and reported byKXAN, the incident occurred while Sundance was at his ranch, leading to an inadvertent shooting that sent him to a Tyler hospital.
“Bullet went in above his navel and lodged into his abdominal wall missing all vital organs. He will not require surgery as they are not removing the bullet,” Misty shared onKXAN, also noting that being “on the bigger side was a good thing” as the “Bullet is in his fatty tissue.” Despite the traumatic event, Misty confirmed that Sundance remains in good spirits, and there was no internal damage reported. The singer sustained the injury when he was “out of the vehicle reaching in to grab his [gun], when he grabbed it the [gun] came out of its holster and hit the exterior of the Jeep just right and went off,” according to her post.
The aftermath of the shooting was a struggle for help as Sundance head’s attempt to call for aid initially failed due to his phone being covered in blood. He “took off down the driveway to the main road to flag someone for help,” Misty stated, as reported byKXAN. It took 10 cars before one turned around to assist, ultimately leading to a call to 911 and support from a Good Samaritan.
Sundance Head’s agent, Trey Newman, has confirmed that the singer’s condition is stable, but additional details on the accident remain pending. “Sundance Head is recovering from a gunshot wound to the stomach/navel area in a Tyler, TX hospital after being airlifted from his ranch while hunting,” Newman toldClick2Houston.
