Laredo, known for its bustling trade operations, has yet another feather in its cap as the U.S. Customs and Border Protection’s (CBP) Trade Regulatory Audit Directorate has set up shop with a new field office. Serving as a hub for forensic accounting and financial analysis, this addition aims to tighten the screws on trade law compliance and bolster investigations of potential fraud.

“We are proud to formally announce that CBP s Trade Regulatory Audit Directorate has inaugurated its own Laredo Field Office,” said Anibal Marrero, Executive Director of Trade Regulatory Audit at the CBP Office of Trade. As reported byCBP News, Marrero emphasized the expertise the new team, led by Field Director Carlos R. Martinez, will bring to the table. The team combines vital forensic accounting skills and data analysis capabilities to ensure compliance with U.S. trade laws while supporting ongoing civil and criminal investigations into complex trade violations all in service of protecting U.S. revenue interests.

The CBP s Trade Regulatory Audit Division does much more than just crunch numbers; this team of specialized field offices crisscrossing the United States performs audits and delivers professional services while serving as trade law gurus. They don’t just work in isolation though the division collaborates with various partner agencies like the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement/Homeland Security Investigations and Partner Government Agencies where they see fit.

According to the officialCBP news release, these auditors are on the front lines, safeguarding against unfair trade practices and promoting lawful trade. These offices conduct audits, including Focused Assessments, and provide other professional services that protect government revenue while educating the trade community on compliance.
