MPD Seeks Public’s Help Identifying Suspects in Northeast DC Security Camera Vandalism

Authorities are on the hunt for two individuals connected to the vandalism of a security camera in Northeast DC. The camera, which was installed at an apartment complex on the 1500 block of Benning Road, Northeast, became the target of destruction on the evening of November 13, according to theMetropolitan Police Department (MPD).

The incident, which took place at about 7:53 p.m., prompted officers to respond to a call regarding disorderly behavior in the vicinity. Investigators found the surveillance device damaged, yet, before its demise, the two suspects were captured by the very instrument they sought to dismantle. The suspects’ images have been released in hopes that the public can assist in their identification.

In a bid to engage the community for help, the MPD has distributed photos of the suspects, urging anyone who recognizes the individuals to step forward. Information can be shared with the police by calling (202) 727-9099 or texting the MPD’s TEXT TIP LINE at 50411, maintaining anonymity if preferred. Incentives are in place as well, with the department offering a reward of up to $1,000 for tips that lead to an arrest and indictment in connection with this crime, or other offenses within the District.

The appeal to community members underscores the importance of public cooperation in maintaining safety and order. However, the MPD advises against direct confrontation, instead, they urge the community to leave the intervention to law enforcement. “Anyone who can identify this suspect, or who has knowledge of this incident should take no action but call police,” stated an MPD release. The investigation continues, with the authorities hopeful that more eyes and ears in the community can contribute to capturing those responsible.
