Sacramento Sheriff’s Deputies Heroically Rescue Residents and Pets From Sunrise Greens Drive House Fire

Three residents and four birds were rescued from a house fire in Sacramento County, an incident reportedly beginning in the garage and quick thinking by local law enforcement likely preventing a tragic outcome. The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Deputies, on the scene before fire crews, evacuated the occupants who were unaware of the growing blaze, as described by aABC10report.

The fire occurred on Sunrise Greens Drive, close to Florin High School, and Battalion Chief Parker Wilbourn recounted the tense moments toABC10saying, “Able to pull out three of the occupants who were still inside, they had no idea there was a fire in their garage” highlighting the urgency and dangers such incidents carry, especially when they go initially unnoticed by those most at risk. After the deputies performed the evacuation, the Sacramento Metro Fire along with crews from @SacFirePIO arrived on scene to face a well involved garage fire that was already spreading into the living space and attic of the single-story home.

Firefighters quickly contained the fire to the home of origin, but not without complications; part of the roof above the garage collapsed due to intense heat, raising concerns about the building’s structural integrity. The encountered dangers were not without consequence as one firefighter sustained minor injuries from falling drywall and was immediately treated on the scene, as per theMetro Fire of Sacramento’s X account.

Crews were dispatched just before 2:30pm for a fire that was onviewed by@sacsheriffDeputies in South Sacramento. The Deputies were able to quickly evacuate 3 occupants and 4 birds from the home before the fire traveled into the living space. Metro Fire [email protected]/6TwhTnq7SK

Battalion Chief Wilbourn pointedly shared withABC10, “It is important to check your smoke alarms and practice your home fire escape plan. Use LED candles instead of traditional candles. Just be mindful of anything you are cooking and stay in the kitchen.”
