Cumulus Media, a major San Francisco radio scene player, has recently announced significant changes to its local operations. As reported byCumulus Media, these moves include a reshuffling of on-air talent, a relocation of the KNBR studios, and a signal boost for sister station KSFO. This comes on the heels of a broader restructuring effort that has seen a notable reduction in staff.
KNBR will begin a new weekday programming lineup tomorrow that showcases fresh talent such as Greg Silver, who joins existing Midday Host and 49ers play-by-play announcer Greg Papa. Listeners can tune in to their show from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The Afternoon Drive will also see a shakeup, with Adam Copeland being joined by Derek Papa to form the new airwave duo. Their program will debut on December 2nd from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., as detailed by astatement from Cumulus Media.
Furthermore, the station is strategically moving from its longstanding San Francisco location at 750 Battery Street to a fresh hub within Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara. As Larry Blumhagen, Regional Vice President and Market Manager,Cumulus San Francisco, conveyed, this “move will bring even more insight, access and “best-seat-in-the-house” opinions to Bay Area sports fans.” The relocation aims to leverage the proximity to the station s broadcast rights partner, the San Francisco 49ers, potentially enriching sports coverage for their audience.
Adding to the waves of change, KSFO is set to significantly ramp up its broadcast range. The station is moving from 560 AM to 810 AM, equipping themselves with a 50,000-watt signal a tenfold increase from their former 5,000-watt signal. As Larry Blumhagen stated via theSan Francisco Chronicle, this transition substantially positions KSFO to expand its reach starting tomorrow. Meanwhile, KNBR’s parent company is also saying goodbye to “some of our most storied and influential talent” amidst this reshuffle, hinting at broader implications for the station’s future and connections to the city’s history and fanbase.
TheSan Francisco Chroniclereported earlier layoffs, which outlined the departure of notable figures such as Tom Tolbert and John Lund. Last year’s dismissals included personalities like Paul McCaffrey from “Murph and Mac” and former MLB player F.P. Santangelo, speaking to the ongoing transformation within Cumulus San Francisco.
