18-Year-Old Fatally Shot in Glassport; Suspect, a Minor, Charged as Adult

A man was shot to death in a quiet Glassport neighborhood Sunday afternoon, according to authorities. Allegheny County Police launched an investigation following the incident on Monongahela Avenue near a senior center, as confirmed by Allegheny County dispatchers who received the call at 2:45 p.m.

First responders arrived on the scene to find the body of 18-year-old James Macke Jr., who was pronounced dead at the location, in front of a senior center and bus stop at the corner of Monongahela Avenue and 6th Street. Neighbors and business owners in the vicinity were left unsettled by the midday violence, and evidence collection by homicide detectives occupied much of the afternoon.

“I was shocked because it s a pretty decent neighborhood. You don t hear nothing like that going on,” Patty Smith, a resident who witnessed the aftermath, stated as perWPXI. “To hear that and he was only 18 years old. It s just, it s a shame.” The fatal shooting was reportedly the escalation of a conflict involving Macke Jr. and two other men, during which one of the men allegedly drew a weapon and shot the victim before fleeing the scene.

Witnesses claim that the suspected shooter boarded a Pittsburgh Regional Transit bus shortly after the incident, leading to his detainment by the Clairton Police. The suspect, identified as 17-year-old James Martin of McKeesport, is being charged with criminal homicide and firearms violations and will be tried as an adult, as reported byCBS Pittsburgh. Allegheny County Police took Martin into custody without incident, just before midnight.

Authorities are actively encouraging anyone with information related to the shooting to contact the Allegheny County Police Tip Line at 1-833-ALL-TIPS, where callers have the option to remain anonymous.
