Originally facing two counts of armed criminal action, those charges were dismissed as part of the negotiation. It was during this court session, that the victim, Terrell Johnson was remembered as a father of three and one among six siblings, with his mother stating in her heart-wrenching testimony, “His life mattered.” She also requested a sentence that would give Wooten the opportunity to ponder over his actions.

Jermaine Wooten, John Wooten’s counsel and cousin, spoke to his longstanding relationship with the accused, having known him all his life. Reflecting on the gravity of the situation, Jermaine noted that his client was aware of the disappointment he had brought upon his family.
