A terrible hit-and-run incident in Monroe County claimed the life of a 43-year-old woman. Last Saturday evening, Erika Todd of Erie was hit by an unidentified car while she was strolling close to the Smith Road side in Bedford Township. After being struck by two additional cars, Todd was declared dead at the scene, according to the Detroit News.

The driver of the hit-and-run vehicle is being actively sought by the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office. Anyone with information about the incident or who witnessed it is encouraged to call the authorities at 734-240-7548. According to the Sheriff’s Office, anonymous information can also be sent via Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAKUP or www.1800speakup.org. According to 13abc, there is still uncertainty on whether speed or alcohol played a role in the initial collision.

Following the original collision, Todd was struck by two more automobiles who remained at the site. Todd was struck as she lay in the road by Teresa D. Thivierge, 65, of Toledo, who was operating a 2007 Honda Accord, and Lexi M. Hall, 19, of Erie, who was operating a 2007 Nissan Sentra. Both drivers stopped their cars after hitting Todd. The authorities later released them without causing any harm.

The public is being asked to help the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office in their ongoing inquiry into the identify of the hit-and-run driver. The incident happened in a residential area with a 45 mph speed restriction, according to WWJ Newsradio. The situation was visited by first responders from the Sheriff’s Office Chaplain Program, Monroe Community Ambulance, and Bedford Township Fire Department.
