A series of armed robberies that have been haunting dollar stores and a gas station in Berrien County, Michigan, since June of this year seemingly found a conclusion with the arrest of Edward Turner, a 38-year-old man from Berrien Springs. Turner was charged with multiple counts of armed robbery, felony firearm, and being a felon in possession of a firearm, as reported byMLive.
According toWOODTV, the first incident in this string of robberies occurred in a Dollar General store in Berrien Springs, with subsequent robberies occurring in stores across St. Joseph and Benton Harbor. The spree culminated in a robbery at a Berrien Springs gas station earlier this month. The arrest followed quickly after the last incident, with Turner being taken into custody last Thursday, around 7:40 a.m. These establishments have been described as soft targets by Detroit Police Chief James Craig due to their typically thin staffing, making them more susceptible to such criminal activities.
Upon executing a search warrant at Turner s residence, authorities found incriminating evidence, including the firearm believed to have been used in the heists. Turner, who now faces a serious array of charges, was arraigned in the Berrien County 5th District Court.
As the case unfolds, Turner is held on a $250,000 cash surety bond at the Berrien County Jail, as detailed byWSBT.
