Two Dead, Ten Injured in Shootings on New Orleans Parade Route

Two shootings occurred along a popular parade route in New Orleans on Sunday, leaving two people dead and at least ten others injured. Superintendent Anne Kirkpatrick reported that the shootings happened 45 minutes apart, with the second incident involving shots fired from a car into the crowd, according toABC7 Chicago.

During the annual Nine Times Social Aid & Pleasure Club second line, also known as the “9th Ward Holiday,” a series of violent events unfolded in areas packed with thousands of people celebrating. “Violence like this” has never marred the event’s history, Margaret Johnston, president of the Desire/Florida Community Association, toldNola.

The first incident occurred around 3:38 p.m. near the 1800 block of Almonaster Avenue, leaving nine people wounded. None of the victims died from their injuries, as stated byNola. Police found evidence of two firearms being used, but no arrests have been made so far.

The second shooting that followed resulted in two fatalities and one additional injury as parade-goers crossed the Almonaster Bridge. The Superintendent confirmed that ballistics indicated two weapons were used, but no further details on the firearms were provided. All previous victims were taken to hospitals and are still alive. These incidents are part of a larger pattern, with over 460 mass shootings reported across the United States this year, as reported byThe Guardian.
