Honolulu Braces for Calmer Weather with Light Winds and Fewer Showers Expected

Honolulu residents can expect lighter, more variable winds starting Wednesday. Showers will mostly impact windward and high terrain areas, with some reaching leeward communities, as forecasted by theNational Weather Service.

Drier weather is expected starting Wednesday, with light winds and minimal rain continuing into the weekend. While conditions are improving, early satellite imagery showed a moisture band east of Oahu moving west, which could lead to an increase in showers as it passes.

Aviators are advised that trade winds will ease by Wednesday, with brief MVFR conditions expected during showers in windward and mauka areas. VFR conditions are likely to dominate in leeward areas, according to theNational Weather Service in Honolulu.

Marine conditions are expected to ease as the high-pressure system northeast of the islands weakens and shifts south in the coming days. Wave heights have dropped below 9 feet, limiting the Small Craft Advisory to the windy waters around Maui County and the Big Island for today. Surf along east-facing shores remains rough but is expected to calm soon.

Ocean conditions are improving, with east shore surf becoming calmer and south shore surf remaining small. The north shore can expect a slight swell increase later Wednesday into Thursday, followed by a larger northwest swell this weekend.

The current weather pattern indicates calmer conditions for air and sea. The Small Craft Advisory remains in effect for select waterways until 6 PM HST, according to the Honolulu Forecast Office.
