Houston Man Sentenced to 9 Years for Violent Carjacking and Firearm Offenses

A Houston man, Dominique Luis-Donte Quinones-Amos, has been handed a 108-month prison sentence for a violent carjacking assault, as announced by U.S. Attorney Alamdar S. Hamdani. Court documents show that Quinones-Amos pleaded guilty on February 12, and his sentence will be followed by three years of supervised release, according tothe U.S. Attorney’s Office.

During the sentencing, U.S. District Judge Andrew S. Hanen took into consideration Quinones-Amos’s past, noting prior convictions, including one for felony assault where a family member was left unconscious. On top of an extensive criminal history, authorities found him illegally in possession of a firearm, despite federal law prohibiting convicted felons from possessing firearms or ammunition. Social media postings further implicated him in illegal arms deals, flaunting two firearms with extended magazines and a handgun modified to operate fully automatic.

The case stems from an incident on October 4, 2021, where two men were attacked in a Houston apartment complex parking lot. Quinones-Amos assaulted one man, forcing him to flee, then violently pistol-whipped the other before stealing his 2013 Dodge Avenger. The vehicle was later recovered and linked to Quinones-Amos through DNA evidence. Beyond the carjacking, an investigation tied the defendant to credit card and money order fraud schemes.

Following his arrest, additional evidence led to Quinones-Amos’s connection with the aforementioned crimes. Law enforcement recovered yet another illegal firearm in his possession. Quinones-Amos will remain in custody until his transfer to a U.S. Bureau of Prisons facility, details of which will be determined in near future. The Houston Police Department and Homeland Security Investigations conducted the investigation while Assistant U.S. Attorney Adam Laurence Goldman prosecuted the case.
