In an attempt to obtain justice for the premature death of 5-year-old Darnell Taylor, his biological family has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against 22 defendants, including the Ohio Department of Jobs and Family Services, after the boy’s body was recovered from a Columbus, Ohio, sewage drain. The documents show that Darnell missed medical appointments, did not attend school, and that Taylor’s family made unanswered pleas to regain custody. According to the lawsuit, the Buckeye Ranch, which was responsible for Taylor’s welfare, found “no safety concerns” with the Mayes in spite of multiple indications that the child was in danger, including the family’s failed attempts to get involved in Darnell’s life and the repeated unanswered visits from case workers to Parkdale Avenue.
Pammy Maye has pleaded not guilty due to insanity in Franklin County court on charges of aggravated murder, abuse of a corpse, and tampering with evidence. She was taken into custody after her confession to the murder was caught on bodycam footage. According to NBC4ire, she calmly described the intentional act of placing Taylor in a garbage bag, explaining how she kept her acts a secret from her husband, and then disposing of Taylor’s body.
