Two ladies were detained by Texas police for reportedly beating three kids with belts and spiked dog leashes after the boys failed to finish their tasks.

Jacalyn Cook, 30, and Haley Blevins, 19, are both charged with multiple counts of child injury, a felony. The mother of the boys, who are aged 12, 7, and 4, called Texarkana police on October 15 to report the alleged abuse that had taken place a few days earlier, according to a probable cause arrest document.

After becoming homeless, the 30-year-old mother and her three children moved in with Cook. Cook soon gave Blevins permission to move in as well. According to reports, the mother voiced concerns about Blevins because of her past mental health issues. She claimed that on October 11, after she got home from work, her oldest son informed her that he and his brothers had been abused. He claimed that Blevins assigned the three of them jobs to do once they got home from school. According to the affidavit, the tasks included transferring a couch from one room to another, washing dishes, and transporting a mattress outside.

According to police reports, Blevins allegedly started beating the boys because she wasn’t satisfied with the way the duties were done. According to the oldest son, Blevins and Cook had hit him over 20 times. Police reported that all three youngsters had welts and bruises all over their legs and buttocks. In terms of discipline, detectives thought the injuries seemed excessive.

To interview the boys, investigators brought them to the Children’s Advocacy Center. According to the 7-year-old, Blevins struck him with a belt and Cook allegedly whooped him from a tree with a spiked switch. The 4-year-old informed police According to the affidavit, Cook struck him with a spiked leash. According to the affidavit, the oldest boy told interviewers that he was at the advocacy center because he had been abused on Friday.

He claimed that after being instructed to wash the dishes, he stopped when he ran out of soap. Blevins allegedly entered the room after he had fallen onto his bed and began beating him with a heavy belt. The couch was heavy and difficult for him to handle, so Blevins forced him to relocate it to a different room. According to the affidavit, Blevins would strike him with the belt if he lost it. He and his brothers were then made to stand against a wall as Blevins continued to beat them with the belt, according to what the police wrote.

Blevins and Cook were taken to the Bowie County Jail after being apprehended by police.
