Las Vegas Traffic Alert as I-15 Faces Overnight Closures for ATM Sign Installations

Early in December, the Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) has announced that Interstate 15 (I-15) will be closed overnight. Between Flamingo Road and Russell Road, southbound lanes will be blocked from 9:00 p.m. on December 3 until 5:00 a.m. on December 4. Between Russell Road and Tropicana Avenue, northbound I-15 will be blocked from 9:00 p.m. on December 4 until 5:00 a.m. on December 5. During these closures, a number of on- and off-ramps will also not be accessible.

According to the Nevada Department of Transportation, the closures are necessary to install Active Traffic Management (ATM) signs, which will improve motorist safety by displaying dynamic speed limits, lane-use directives, and real-time traffic information. Weighing between 46,000 and 105,000 pounds, these signs mark a major advancement in the modernization of the roadway infrastructure in Southern Nevada. Northbound I-15 will be reduced to three lanes between Hacienda Avenue and Flamingo Road earlier in the week. Southbound I-15 will also be reduced to three lanes between Flamingo Road and Hacienda Avenue. Drivers should prepare for delays and, if feasible, take detours.

As part of the I-15/Tropicana project, the Nevada Department of Transportation announced that ten ATM signs will be put with the goal of improving safety and perhaps reducing secondary crashes by up to 30%. This is a major improvement considering Southern Nevada’s high traffic volume. When there is construction going on, drivers are asked to drive with extreme caution.

By sharing roadway limits with Waze, the Nevada Department of Transportation is assisting commuters in navigating these delays. Drivers are advised to check for updates at nvroads.com or call 511 as schedules are subject to change due to weather and other circumstances.
