Harrison Man Fatally Struck in Suspected Hit-and-Run Near Houghton Lake, Driver Under Investigation

A 54-year-old Harrison man was killed in a hit-and-run accident in Roscommon County. The body of a guy who had been strolling along Meade Road near the U.S. 127 overpass in Lake Township was found by Michigan State Police on Sunday night after they were summoned to the scene, according to ABC12.

According to preliminary accounts, the man was hit while walking west on Meade Road, less than a mile west of Houghton Lake’s North Bay, and was found lying dead in the road when troopers arrived at approximately 5:45 p.m. In a tragic turn of events, the suspected vehicle—a pickup truck—came closer to the scene after evidence collection. According to WNEM, authorities believe the truck was involved in the deadly accident based on evidence recovered from the vehicle and found on the scene.

After being transported to a nearby hospital, the truck’s driver, a 66-year-old man from Houghton Lake, voluntarily agreed to a blood sample to ascertain whether or not alcohol was a contributing factor in the occurrence. According to the most recent information, no charges have been brought against the victim, and their identity has not been made public until their family has been notified. According to a news article from UpNorthVoice, Michigan State Police are still investigating the case and have announced that the Roscommon County Prosecutor’s Office will get their findings.

At the site, officials were supported by the Lake Township Fire Department and the Gerrish Township Police Department. There are still unanswered concerns regarding the events that led to the night’s cruel end, even as the town copes with the fallout from Sunday. The goal of the current investigation is to clarify this tragedy and provide comfort to those impacted by the unexpected loss.
