According to the Chicago Sun-Times, an acquaintance of rapper G Herbo has pled guilty to his role in a wire fraud conspiracy, marking a significant development in the Chicago music scene. In a federal court in Massachusetts, Terrence Bender, better known in the music industry as “Blends” or “Dopeblends,” pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to conduct wire fraud.
In December 2020, Bender was charged with using credit card information that had been stolen to purchase expensive goods and services, such as designer pets and private plane charters, together with G Herbo and four other co-defendants. WGN-TV reports that the fraudulent acts, which affected several organizations and individuals who contested the illegal transactions, took place between March 2017 and November 2018.
After the manhunt, Bender turned himself in to the police in December 2020, and federal prosecutors are now pursuing him for $103,000 in losses. Earlier this year, G Herbo—real name Herbert Wright III—was sentenced to three years of probation, and two other co-defendants were given comparable probationary terms. Just last month, Antonio Strong, a music promoter in the Chicago region, received a harsher punishment of three years in prison.
The fate of the last co-defendant, Steven Hayes Jr., is still out in the air while he awaits trial, and Bender’s sentencing is scheduled for February 27th in the courtroom calendar.
