MPD Arrests Two Suspects from Northeast DC Following Shooting in Southeast, Search Continues for Additional Suspect

Two people have been arrested in Southeast following a recent shooting incident. Following reports of gunfire in the 500 block of Valley Avenue on Monday morning, police were dispatched to the site. They discovered a man who had been shot there. The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) reports that he was later transported to a hospital where he received treatment for non-life-threatening injuries.

Officers from the Seventh District acted quickly after receiving the shooting report, capturing two nearby suspects who fit the lookout description. Two firearms were found recovered at the site amid the haste of the police response. Darion Muhammad, 20, and a juvenile, 17, both from Northeast Washington, D.C., are charged with assault with a dangerous weapon (gun).

Even though two people have been taken into custody, the matter is still open because another suspect managed to escape by driving away in a stolen car.MPD has released a picture of the car taken from local security cameras, asking people to help them in their hunt while also advising them to report the vehicle to the police if they see it.

In connection with the crime, the police department continues to offer a reward of up to $10,000 for information that results in an arrest and conviction. “Anyone who locates this vehicle and/or who has knowledge of this incident should take no action but call police at (202) 727-9099 or text your tip to the Department’s TEXT TIP LINE at 50411,” according to theMPDstatement. The MPD’s commitment to stopping the wave of gun violence and changing the landscape of the communities it patrols is demonstrated by the department’s ongoing investigation.
