Beaverton Unveils First Year-Round Shelter in Effort Against Homelessness with Governor Kotek and Mayor Beaty’s Support

Governor Tina Kotek, Beaverton Mayor Lacey Beaty, and other important leaders officially opened The Beaverton Shelter on Thursday, marking a major stride in the fight against homelessness. This is the first year-round facility designed to give those without a stable place to live refuge and basic services in the city, according to a statement acquired by the Oregon Newsroom.

With its close proximity to public transportation, groceries, social services, and job prospects, the 12,000-square-foot facility provides accessibility. At the event, Governor Kotek was upbeat, saying, “The work is certainly not done, but the opening of this shelter today shows us despite the uphill battle we’re fighting that we are making real progress, that we remain unrelenting in our goals.” According to a statement acquired by Oregon Newsroom, she acknowledged the joint efforts to promote a better Oregon, one that includes secure homes for all of its citizens.

The Beaverton Shelter will provide 60 beds, consistent meals, showers, and a range of supports to help people find long-term housing alternatives as part of its full-time, year-round operations. Additionally, the program provides a dedicated space for coordinated care, which increases the likelihood that individuals in need will find stable housing.
