To increase people’ access to online services, North Carolina has teamed up with NC 211 through the North Carolina Department of Information Technology (NCDIT). Through this partnership, people throughout the state will be able to navigate digital tools that are necessary for modern living and safe internet services.
According to a press release from the North Carolina Department of Information Technology, NC 211 has historically offered information on health and human services with assistance from the United Way of North Carolina and 47 local affiliates. Digital literacy, email setup, and places with free Wi-Fi or computer laboratories are now being added. Governor Roy Cooper said, “Their work with NCDIT highlights how essential connectivity and access to online resources are for all North Carolinians.”
Hurricane Helene made clear how crucial digital accessibility is, particularly in times of need. “Partnering with NC 211 helps us connect North Carolinians to services they need to safely get online to work remotely, access educational resources, and use telehealth,” said NCDIT Secretary and State Chief Information Officer Jim Weaver, underscoring the partnership’s function.
“United Way of North Carolina is excited to partner with NCDIT to bring new opportunities through our Digital Equity and Literacy program,” stated Brittany Pruitt Fletcher, president and CEO of United Way of North Carolina. According to a statement from the North Carolina Department of Information Technology, “This partnership demonstrates our dedication to guaranteeing that every North Carolindian has access to the digital tools and abilities they require to prosper.”
Residents are urged to contact 2-1-1 or 888-892-1162 if they require these additional services. It is claimed that a free but private consultation with a qualified community resource specialist will guarantee that each person’s case is treated with the utmost attention and connected to the right local resources.
